Where pipes and politics collide!!

Bagpipes

I love bagpipes. I have an unmatched passion for them. There are very few things in the world besides my faith and family that can even caome close to the passion I have for this instrument. I just find them to be so much more exciting than ny other instrument. I also enjoy the diffeent types of drums they use in the pipe band. I also enjoy these. There are three types of drums: snare, tenor, and bass (pronounced base.) My favorite is the tenor. More to follow.

Very Cool!

Vote!

It is so embarassing on the lack of voting in the United States. We take for granted voting… meanwhile those in third-world regimes can only imagine that one day their great-grandchildren will be able to give a slight opinon in their government. Here in America we basically have the right to say whatever we want about government. That is why ROCK THE VOTE is such a great organiztion. It is so important for youth to vote because they are the future of this nation and they need to make their voices heard. We need to vote more in this country- plain and simple. Everyone has problems that they are dealing with and because we live in a democracy we have the complete right to choose who we want to fix those problems. It is key for everyone to vote becase many of us have similar concerns and its our right to change it. For aeveryone if you do or when you can register to vote you have to. It a civic obligation. Frankly, I can’t wait to vote because I’M REGISTERING ON MY FIRST DAY OF ELIGIBILITY. I want to be an active and informed citizen and make my country proud, as should you. Let’s go America. Check out rock the vote. They have great videos.

A Victory

Q- How has Wolfgang Puck responded to critisicm that his menus feature animals raised under cruel conditions?- (Paul Fox, Philadelphia, PA)
A- His 15 resturaunts stopped serving foie gras, endangered fish, and meat from animals raised in cartes (including veal..) “If people could see how abused farm animals are, they’d demand change,” says Puck, who wa spraised by the Humane Society.

Also, today an extremely large tornado hit down north of Denver Colorado. Please keep those affected in your thoughts and prayers.

My Favorite… Reporter

My favorite reporter is CNN’s Chief International Coorespondent- Christiane Amanpour. Her journalistic work is absolutely amazing. I love watching her stories from the middle of war zones, devastated territories, and famine- stricken lands. Her analysis of topics is unmatched and her love for what she does is evident. My favorite of her works was “God’s Warriors,” which examined Islam, Judaism and Chirstianity and those who defend them. It was a three-night six hour series in total. I also enjoyed her piece on HIV/AIDS in Africa in “Where Have All the Parents Gone.” I look foward to seeing more of her excellent work. Read more about here by clicking here.

Count all the votes…

I am going to leave my political opinions out of this piece. I’m not going to say whether I support Clinton or Obama or McCain or Nader or Barr or anyone else. However, I will say that I am upset with the DNC’s decision to strip Michigan and Florida of their DNCC delegates. I know that they broke the rules and they should be punished for that. Maybe a 50%reduction in delegates would be appropriate. We can’t seat the delegates as they are now… considering that Barack Obama’s name wan’t even on the ballot in Michigan. Let’s fllow the Republicans and reduce the amount of delegates that each state has. We need a fair re-election. Some sort of re-election. I am confident, trusting that the majority of the people in the DNC are pretty smart, that these delegates will be seated. It is the right thing to do. We live in a democracy… is it not only right to count every vote?

Another problem… Foie Gras

Foie Gras is cruel. I VOW TO NEVER EAT IT JUST LIKE I WILL NEVER EAT VEAL. Foie Gras is the liver of a duck that has been FORCE FED. Yes, FORCE FED. The poor ducks live in terrible conditions but that’s not the worst of this. They constantly have a long plastic tube filled with nasty gruel down their throats- and then the food is shot down their esophagus. This all to make their liver big. I find this to be one of the cruelest things that I have ever seen. Why make a duck -something that God has created- live in total Hell. Stop Foie Gras- it’s the right thing to do.

P.S.- I am quite upset with Chicago’s recent descision to allow Foie Gras. The Chicago City Council recently lifted a two year ban on Foie Gras. Then they lifted a ban and made a good thing bad.

P.S.S.- I realize it has little to do with the topic but did you know that 90% of veal cows are injected with illegal steroids?

Veal Needs to Stop!

Take Action Now!

The United States economy is in a recession. It may not be in terms of what an economist considers a recession,  but it is in the terms of how middle-class and poor America are faring. The majority of people feel that their spending habits have changed as a result of inflation. People can no longer go on vacations, visit relatives and some can’t even afford milk- which cost only about 5 cents for a pint a century ago. Consumers are canceling their credit cards and homeowners are falling into scams that mortgage companies lay on them- with adjustable-rate mortgages making it so hard for some that they are just a trip or a fall away from financial ruin. Many need to work so hard, even sick,  just to pay their bills while banks are taking their cars and house furnishings as loan collateral. I personally do not believe that giving people money with rebate checks will be effective as they are simply going to pay off their credit card debt or a loan that they are trying to get rid of because they were unaware that they took a flexible interest package. Our presidentail candidates offer far-fetched plans on how to “band-aid” our economy and only temporarily stop the beleeding. I have a solution that so many other lawmakers have suggested as it is the key to healing our economy. KEEP AMERICAN JOBS HERE AT HOME! Pressure factory-owners in Pennslyvania who have ties to Washington to not fire their employees and move the company to Taiwan. Pressure compaines not to have everything made in countries where there are poor human rights records for offensives like child labor and stop producing good in countries where workers are not fortunate enough to have a minimum wage and then selling that product here for more than many can afford. Let’s make it possible to make gas at the pump more affordable, have homeowners pay off their debts and regain their forclosed homes, have the elderly be able to afford their medications and most importatnly end this domestic “war,” as Lou Dobbs puts it, on the poor and middle class

End Veal Now!

I am trying to begin a mass attempt to end veal. The cruelty that takes place to the poor baby cattle is schocking and it is amazing that we as a highly developed society could allow these inhumane actions to occur. I think that the United States should end veal just like many other developed nations have. They have opened their eyes and have seen the horror- and now it is our time to stop these sick occurances to go on in this great nation. The poor animals are forced fro birth to be locked in small cage so that their muscles can not deveolp. They are chained at the neck and are fed nutritionless groll and milk intentionally lacking in iron and other vital substances for development. The baby calves are fed steroids so that they do not become ill as a result of having to constantly lay in their own filth. The cattle can’t fight off disease because their bodies does not have the ability to as a result of being fed an unbalanced, nutritionless diet. The cattle, whithout being grown at all, are then killed just so some people can get a nice white piece of meat. I hope that this has opened your eyes and the next time you are offered veal or you have the option of choosing it in a resturaunt- SAY NO! Check out the link for more information: Let’s end veal production in this country.
